Temporarily Abandoning the Acumatica Data Access Classes

I still have a lot of hope for learning how the Data Access Classes in Acumatica can contribute to better reporting. As far as I can tell, I think the Data Access Classes function like the Acumatica Reporting??? side of the picture below. Acumatica, Power Query, and Power Pivot

I wasn't able to spend much time on direct Acumatica learning this week, but I did get to entertain an Excel reporting idea that I think would be very powerful if I can get it to work.
