HI:

I created a webpage that described the value of Acumatica being Open Source: https://www.intercs.com/open-source-big-deal

However I would like some reviews by people who more technical than me. Could you please provide your comments in this forum so that everybody can benefit from them.

Thanks

Toon Six

Technically, Acumatica isn't open source. It's a very "open" framework, but not all the way open source in the way that something like odoo ERP is.

In a way, I like that Acumatica isn't open source. Then I'm not tempted to modify the source code. The core code remains controlled by Acumatica and you inject your own code using Customization Projects.

@timrodman I agree....although Acumatica has adapted open development standards, making it easy for customers to customize the product.

It is not, however, not open source in the traditional sense.

Distributing under open source licensing typically allows anyone to change and distribute the source code using different branding ("fork") and sell it as commercial product.

@Toonsix your article is not factually correct, NetSuite allows modifications to be made see https://blog.prolecto.com/2011/10/19/netsuite-embraces-cost-effective-open-source-philosophies-in-the-cloud-computing-world/#:~:text=NetSuite%20Embraces%20Cost%2DEffective%20Open%20Source%20Philosophies%20in%20the%20Cloud%20Computing%20World,-By%20Marty%20Zigman&text=This%20movement%20centered%20on%20the,the%20benefit%20of%20the%20community.

Also Syspro has a level of customisation.... https://au.syspro.com/product/syspro-erp/customization/

I have just wrote a blog for MYOB on the value the ecosystem offers (will share that once I have it approved) and I am due to write a blog about the Acumatica platform which will be followed up with another blog providing examples on what we at MYOB Enterprise Division have achieved using the platform to meet our bespoke business challenges, I can share these with you once complete.

I find with these articles it best to talk about our strengths and educate the reader to what to expect from Acumatica ERP as a platform for solving todays and more importantly tomorrow's business challenges rather than take a swipe at the competition, in today's world the buyer is more informed and it's our duty with article like this to be a promoter and educator of our solution rather than a detractor of others. When being a detractor you lose credibility should you make a claim that is untrue.

All the best,

Carl

Carl, well said. I will adjust the wording on our website. I will stress the power and ease of use of the Acumatica customization tools and xRP development tools. Please share with me your blog about the Acumatica platform. Is there a weblink? ToonSIx@intercs.com Thanks

Customization allows us to change forms and screen. doesn't means its open-source.

Acumatica is not fully opensource, but its enough for most business customized process and modules.

@kingcarlos

are you MYOB Advanced partner?

I have to disagree.  Acumatica isn't Open Source.  We believed in Acumatica, that's why we are one of the OEM in Asia.

Would say Open Source ERP would be something like Adempiere.
