Importing Project Budget Forecasts
I have a client that would like to show Project Budgets distributed by period, instead of a full annualized amount. I know that the way to handle this is to generate a Project Budget Forecast, and use the Add Periods/Distribute actions. However, this can be a tedious process to replicate across 100's of projects every year.
Has anyone figured out a good way to automate this? I'm thinking through Import Scenarios?
Interested to hear your feedback!
Hello Derek, You first have to load budgets for all your tasks. After you load all the task budgets you can do the budget forecast. DO NOT use the distribute function on our import. The numbers will be wrong. Import the budget percentage and the amounts. In version 6 it would calculate almost accurately most every time. Now its not even close. Good luck.
Velixo recently added a feature for this in the last release in June/July. I haven't tried this feature yet, but it was one we were requesting for one of our clients and I'm glad to see it's been added.
@megan-friesen -- thanks for mentioning us!!! Derek, if you want to see a demo of how we can do Project Forecast Writeback for multiple projects and multiple periods at once you can watch this:
(video should start at around 8:29 -- right where I present this enhancement). Since it is formula-based you can layout your worksheet exactly the way you want. We have a few customers using it already that need to forecast multiple projects and multiple financial years at once and they love it.
The Velixo update looks awesome! Thanks for the info!
