Emails sent from Approvals (PO or SO) have sender: EmailAccount.Description <EmailAccount.Address>
Emails sent from Automation Notifications have sender: EmailAccount.Address - so you don't get the account name in the sender for these emails.
Emails sent from Notification Templates appear to always use the Default Email Account for the sender (defined on Email Preferences) and ignore any sender defined in the From: field of the Notification Template. This one is really frustrating because we want remittance advices to be sent from a different email address than our main ERP system email address. What then is the point of the From: field in Notification Templates?
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed these annoyances?
Hi Royce,
You're definitely ahead of me on this, but, just to clarify by what you mean with the Approvals (PO), I think you mean when you populate the Pending Approval Notification field on the APPROVAL tab of the Purchase Orders Preferences (PO101000) screen right? It sounds like emails sent using this method look like they come from an email in this format: "Royce Lithgo <royce@email.com>" (which is good). But I'm not clear, do emails sent using this method respect the From field on the Notification Templates (SM204003) screen?
Sounds like emails sent using the Automation Notifications (SM205040) screen look like they come from an email in this format: "royce@email.com" (which is NOT good). Honestly, this doesn't surprise me (sadly) because it almost feels like two different email engines, although I'm not sure if that's actually the case on the backend. My recommendation is to open a support case and advocate that this is a bug and the emails should come from an email in this format: "Royce Lithgo royce@email.com". Feel free to reference this post as backup.
Then, I'm not clear what you mean by emails sent using Notification Templates. As far as I know, the Notification Templates (SM204003) screen defines the structure of an email, but it doesn't actually send them. Are you referring to the Pending Approval Notification field on the APPROVAL tab of the Purchase Orders Preferences (PO101000) screen mentioned above? Are maybe you are referring to sending an email via the MailSettings -> TemplateID field in Report Designer?
Hi Tim,
Notification Template email is for EFT remittance. Under AP Preferences > Mailing Settings, there is a notification template specified for "AP REMITTANCE ADVICE", in our case it's "SupplierRemittanceAdviceNotification". I have heavily modified the delivered version including assigning a system email to the From field. The remittance advice is triggered from "Print / Email AP Remittance Advice" page but when the email is sent, it does not honour the From: field I defined in the template but instead uses our default system email account, which is really only appropriate for internal message (ie. sent to system users).

I can live with the shortcomings of the Automation Notifications as those messages are internal only, but the AP EFT Remittance is a bit of an issue. I want the emails to be sent from a different address (remit@... instead of erp-system@...) and i want the Reply to to be accounts@... instead of no-reply@...
For anyone interested, the email account can be specified on the Vendor, Mailing Settings tab for the 'AP REMITTANCE ADVICE' Mailing ID. If this is done in the Vendor Class, it will update all applicable vendors. Still not sure why From: on Notification Templates doesn't work, but at least i have a solution.
Ah, I see now. So you were able to fix the From email address somehow using the Mailing Settings tab on the Vendors (AP303000) screen?

Also, just curious, is the Print / Email AP Remittance Advice screen a custom screen?
That's cool that MYOB built that screen. We have to use a 3rd party product to get that functionality here in the USA. I hope Acumatica adds it to the core product at some point in the future.
Has anyone figured out how to automatically process outbound emails without manually running the Send & Receive email process?
Keith, have you tried scheduling the send and receive process to run automatically? We have ours set to run every 5 minutes.
I scheduled ours for every minute. Works well.
I usually have it scheduled to run every minute as well.
