I am seeking any feedback from those who have successfully or unsuccessfully used the Shipengine shipping solution for Acumatica.
We have tried the Shipstation integration and found its functionality limited (especially with international orders) and found their support lacking.
We are now considering the Shipengine solution.
If you have used it, I am very interested in hearing how it is working for you and how it compares to other shipping solutions you have tried.
It's tough getting any answers to be honest with you. Our partner doesn't really know about it. Acumatica barely provides any info and if you ask shipengine they will tell you that Acumatica has requested that they tell customers to direct support questions to Acumatica. I've gotten domestic shipping to work by watching this youtube video:
International should work in theory but questions about international shipping documents and requirements are unclear to me. Also the way that Acumatica handles shipping accounts isn't ideal...or at least is not clear.
If you follow the instructions in the video you should be able to get it working. Good luck!
Thanks georgydas, this is the type of first hand information we are looking for! Your experience sounds very similar to our experience with Shipstation.
Don't rule out StarShip. They have an old school desktop and a new web interface. https://www.acumatica.com/acumatica-marketplace/v-technologies-starship-shipping-software/
It can handle international shipments and the complete documentation, multi-box shipments.
We have customers happy with ShipEngine. I've heard folks at Acumatica recommend ShipEngine over the built-in "Shipping Carrier" integrations, especially FedEx which can be finnicky. ShipEngine can also handle FedEx envelopes, which the built-in FedEx connector does not (which came up with another customer).
In general, third-parties like ShipStation, and I think ShipEngine?, provide wholesale shipping rates through Endicia and others, versus paying "retail." I know everyone has a "negotiated rates" with UPS, but I've seen folks save as much as 40% on shipping by adding USPS (especially First Class). For bigger items, especially that need to go far, FedEx and UPS, are still recommended. And I know that USPS wasn't quite as reliable in the madness of 2020, but prior to that, First Class was pretty reliable at 2-3 days.
Thanks for all the feedback. I guess I should provide a little more background information about our application.
We ship both domestically and internationally with all available carriers, but mostly UPS. ~30-60 shipments per day.
We need CI and EEI filing capability (which Shipstation did not have EEI); the ability to blind ship and bill 3rd party accounts; a reliable and stable connection with Acumatica; good support from the provider.
Has anyone tried EasyPost? It seems to be a popular solution over on the Acumatica Community Forum.
