I've just moved to a company and they have also just recently implemented Acumatica. I'd like the ability within Acumatica that when a SKU comes to the end of its life and we no longer want to re-order (or the product is no longer available to re-order from the supplier) that we can set it to only sell stock on hand and not generate backorders we are unable to fufil.

I can't see an option to do this within the verison of Acumatica we have.

Is it possible to do this & if so what is required?

I did something similar a while back, from memory... we did a custom boolean (check) box to flag the items which were end of life. When the stock level reached zero a business event triggered and set parameters on the stock item such as its status and a few other things around warehousing locations etc. You could do something similar to set the item to inactive/no sales etc.

Piggy-backing on Alan's idea, you could set the status to No Purchase when you can no longer get it from a supplier. That will prevent you from being able to put it on a purchase order.

Then you could create a Generic Inquiry that displays all Sales Order Lines that are Open with an item that has a status of No Purchase and a Quantity on Hand of zero. Put a scheduled Business Event on top of that which runs everyday and fires an Import Scenario to mark those Sales Order Lines as closed.

Then create another Generic Inquiry which shows all items that have a Status of No Purchase and a Quantity on Hand of zero. Put a scheduled Business Event on top of that which runs everyday and fires and Import Scenario to set the Status of those items to Inactive.
