I would like to ask how does average cost of stock items work ? on our accumatica we have min and max cost . the average cost doesn't return any value

The Valuation Method field on the GENERAL SETTINGS tab of the Stock Items (IN202500) screen has to be set to Average:
Then the Average Cost field on the PRICE/COST INFO tab of the Stock Items (IN202500) screen should be populated with a value.
@timrodman I am having an issue with reports not working properly because the Average cost is 0 when a new item has only been ordered once. How do we make the Average cost = the last cost when a new item has only been ordered once?

I've never seen this behavior, Are you sure the Purchase Receipt has been released? Whether it is ordered only once or 1,000 times as long as the proper valuation is established on the stock item and the receipt is released Average Cost is updated.
I thought I had the same issue.
The item in the screen shots below has been received and has an on hand balance of 6
This item has an average cost valuation method:
But the Average Cost is 0, and the last cost is $.98
It turns out that a user had manually entered the last cost of $.98 and the receipt was received with $0 cost
