We are having an outside vendor do manufacturing-on-demand for a portion of our product line. Its similar to a dropship scenario in that we do not own the inventory. So it seems clear that these items should be classified as "non-stock items" in Acumatica.
We want the vendor to print shipping labels and ship on our account ("blind" to the customer). The first thought was to issue a blanket PO to the vendor and use the automatic packaging option in Acuamtica to accomplish this as it allows us to pre-print shipping labels that we could email to our vendor - but it seems that automatic packaging is not available for Non-Stock items??
1) Can others verify that Non Stock items do not support automatic packaging?
2) If thats true, how have others accomplished blind drop shipping scenarios?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Ill be in Houston next week, but am interested in solving this ASAP

I don't think you can do Automatic Packaging for Non-Stock Items.
There is an AUTOMATIC PACKAGING section on the PACKAGING tab of the Stock Items (IN202500) screen:

But not on the Non-Stock Items (IN202000) screen:

Have you tried using Stock Items but always set PO Source to Drop-Ship on the Sales Orders (SO301000) screen? That way they would never land in inventory and you might be able to generate your paperwork.
You could even do a customization to automatically set PO Source to Drop-Ship for Items of a certain Item Class, with a certain Attribute, etc.
Thanks Tim, the solution we settled is similar to your idea: we are automatically set orders of items in the relevent class to Dropship using webservice connector from our ecommerce front end; this works. Since these are non-stock items, we also need to bring tracking codes back to confirm drop shipment, but I believe this can be accomplished with UPS worldship tools. I'll update when we figure that bit out.
