I am new to the group and so partly a hello and other part to see how many users are using Avatax for your tax management. We integrated Avatax with Certcapture In March of this year. We sell across the US and Canada with some shipments going overseas. We are B to B and B to C therefore we have a very busy tax compliance group. We have over 2k resell/exemption certificates to maintain with Nexus in 36 states.
So with that said even though we are operational we have our challenges with the compatibility between Acumatica and Avatax. I wanted to see how many are using this before I go asking questions on these challenges.

I would start with Avalara Support. They integrate with hundreds of ERP applications. If you are having a problem integrating with Avatax, they are the best source of a solution.

I have spent the last 9 months researching with very little info on day to day tasks with the two systems. It does not appear that many are using these systems together.

I know they have integrations they call 'connectors' for just about all ERP applications out there. If they installed a connector for you, it will operate pretty much automatically. (I did some contract work for Avalara when they were swamped with new customers, following the Economic Nexus Supreme Court decision about two years ago).
What creates economic nexus tends to be internet sales greater than $100,000 per year or some number of transactions during the same time period. The connectors were typically from a web site to Avalara and then from web site to your ERP application.
No matter what your setup is, I am confident Avalara can address it.
