Hi,
I am relatively new to Acumatica...
How may I create separate versions of the same GI (i.e., copy an exiting GI to a new GI)?
When I export a GI as xml, if I import it again, the existing GI is overwritten.ย ย I would like to import it as a "new"ย GI.
Thanks!
Robย
Rob,
First, welcome to club Acumatica!
Second, as you start working with Acumatica, you will get the opportunity to learn usability tools and features. One of them is the clipboard tool found on most document screens. Use your search tool and look for "To Copy a Document Contents to a New Document". This will walk you through how to copy document and transactions including GIs.
When we first started, we were making copies of GIs all the time.ย We ended with multiple versions and issues where certain fields or links may not be present at some Sales Order GIs because they were added to other Sales Order GIs.ย We ended up scaling back and using a single GI per area.ย That gives a more uniform experience.ย We use filters and dashboards to achieve the same abilities we had with multiple GIs.
Thank you both for the responses.ย ย
I do not want to start making changes to the live GI's.ย ย
I'd rather work with a "copy".ย
Don't want to break something that is in use while I am still learning the relationships.ย ย
Rob,
I strongly recommend establishing a naming convention for all GI's you build. We use the 3 letter id of CS3 for every GI we build. It is the first three letters of every GI name. We also build a custom hidden GI folder to place all our GI's in development so we keep them separate.ย
Bottom line, keep your work organized and establish standards which must always be followed (with the threat of death or termination). Otherwise, things get out of hand very quickly.
Thanks for the advice Shawn!
