Questions “Poor man’s” project / cost accounting

Anyone aware of Acumatica functionality or customization that allows tagging a transaction line with a validated field and then flow to GL. For example, project accounting does offer ability to add project task and now cost code on transaction line level.  For example a customer may want to track an event Id or job against an AP expense line. Only way I’m aware of now is you purchase Project Accoutning.  But the price of the add for project accounting to steep for just that functionality.   I remember on Sage 500 they had gl codes that could be used as custom fields when that gl account was used.   Anyone aware of existing add in or customization out there?  Otherwise, a customizing we will go.
