The default numbering for journal entries in Acumatica is 6 digits of numbers: 000001, 000002, etc.
Personally, I like to extend the length from 6 digits to 9 digits. Why? Because 9 digits fit comfortably into the Batch Number field and I figure it's not a bad idea to be setup to handle as many journal entries as possible.
Another thing I like to do is use the first 2 digits for the Module. Like this:
With the first 2 digits being the 2 letters of the Module and 9 digits total, that leaves us with 7 digits for the numbers which means we can have up to 9,999,999 journal entries which is basically 10 million journal entries. Not bad!
Lastly, as a reminder, each module controls its own journal entry numbering. Look for the Batch Numbering Sequence field in the module preferences. Here's what it looks like on the General Ledger Preferences (GL102000) and Accounts Payable Preferences (AP101000) screens:
