Product & Platform Roadmap – xRP Summit 2018

June 21, 2018 by Tim Rodman

For the second year in a row, Acumatica held a virtual developer conference. Here are my notes from the Product & Platform Roadmap session.

Now about to start the Roadmap session which should include some demos. Nice! #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/FmJw8rRtxS

Over 50% of the new $25M investment will go into R&D. 50% of that will go into the platform. That's because Acumatica is a technology company, not a marketing company like Sage. That makes this platform priority list even more interesting. #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/lcfpMovEWL

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

Acumatica is already rethinking how to modernize their technology from 5-10 years ago. Always trying to stay current. #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/E8KZUyAEmy

As Acumatica continues to add customers, performance and scalability become more and more important #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/rCU5JDqlpy

I love to see this point about low code, no code customization #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/eYveoXnCAK

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

The best news of this entire summit is to see "improving reporting capabilities" make this list #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/zXP74t2QnU

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

The three big priorities for the next couple of years #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/Kreh0gaAUO

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

I'm not exactly sure what eliminating web forms means, but it sounds like it would make the UI more modern #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/nCTjpwjzdE

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

BQL is a huge part of the Acumatica platform. Improving it to include LINQ would be a major improvement. #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/mvjaMhB0BD

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

Extension functionality introduced 2-3 years ago is unique to Acumatica. It allows customizations to survive upgrades better which is so important with a SaaS product. They want to improve this too. #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/Cubu1DMRHp

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

The SaaS environment monitoring has improved dramatically which allows Acumatica to identify what areas of the system cause the most performance problems, allowing issues to be resolved before the user even notices them #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/xjWadYCp49

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

Some of the Acuminator validation stuff will be making its way into the core validation routine which will help with performance of customizations #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/wQclPUEUDS

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

What other ERP company would list something like "inquiry delegates and query cache optimization" as a priority in a presentation?!? #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/f0PhkngfBJ

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

Sounds like Automation Steps will be getting a welcome makeover, making it a tool for consultants, not just developers. I love to hear that! #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/VBgOaOzMfS

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

More wizards and less programming coming in the new Automation Steps #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/I8mKtpxjMG

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

Also expect to see a graphical way to add fields to screens that can easily be reported on #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/Pzr3aosM8b

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

Per tenant customization will allow multiple customizations on the same site or instance #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/VciOhZh4pN

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

Sounds like the scripting customization layer will be like VBA in Excel, something for consultants, not just developers! #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/HavRjnv5aN

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

Looks like we'll get some demos of new reporting capabilities. Not surprising to see Generic Inquiries continuing to form the foundation of the reporting foundation. #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/B9pG6wxqyb

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

This is the current front-end architecture in Acumatica #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/3ipJ4xK6ql

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

This is what Acumatica wants the future front-end architecture to look like #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/jNFhKKvpNo

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

If I'm understanding this correctly, seems like they want to push more rendering work into the browser which makes sense because the web server can be a major bottle-neck, the dark side of web applications #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/I76wKDMFXg

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

This front-end change is MAJOR so it will need to be attacked one step at a time #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/xevzorNRNX

— Tim Rodman (@TimRodman) June 21, 2018

The timeline for the inject scripting customization layer is likely 1-2 years from now, but changes will come incrementally #AcumaticaDevSummit pic.twitter.com/nPsvOKs9YX
