I would like to see all users post with their real names. When I go to Summit or to a conference I don't believe I'll be able to recognize Gandolf, GregA, or other anonymous pseudonyms used here. IMHO.
I hear ya Mike. I use my real name.
But I think a lot of people prefer to use an anonymous name, especially consultants, because they don't want to admit that they are asking for help, especially when clients look to them for answers. Personally, I don't do that because I don't view myself as an expert who knows everything, just a professional learner who is always learning new things, but some people are uncomfortable with it.
I will say though that there are some creative usernames. The POTATO_GHOST username and avatar are my personal favorite.
There is a private messaging add-on feature that I could purchase and install in the forums which would allow you to private message a user if you'd like to "meet" them. What do you think about that idea?
Hey Mike,
Since making the forums free, I was getting a ton of spam users. So my solution was to require new users to register with a Facebook, Google, or LinkedIn account. When you do that, it defaults to your real name and includes your picture. So hopefully you'll like that 🙂
But a person can still change their Display Name and Avator to something else if they want.
Bit late to the party, but a private messaging system would be great, especially if we could run attachments. Some of us may be a bit averse to sharing an in-house .rpx file with the world (luckily, my company hasn't put any restrictions on me yet) or sharing a screen shot of sensitive financial data etc... It would also be nice if a forum post would derail the topic, but a PM would suffice to answer nuances of a question. You and I just hit this a little bit when discussing aggregates in group footers, although that particular instance might have just needed a new thread. As Acumatica grows we're likely to see more of these scenarios appear. If it's stupid expensive or tedious to setup, no worries, but it sure would be handy!
Hey @michael-hansen,
I went ahead and bought the PM feature.
You can use the icon highlighted in the screenshot below on a post to send someone a message, or search for them in the Members Area and use the same icon to send them a message.

Thank you very much. Hope it didn't hurt your wallet!
Naw, just $35. It's a nice feature to have so it's worth it.
