My notes on the BOM Preferences (AM101000) screen in the Acumatica Manufacturing Edition.

This screen is where you define the preferences for the Bills of Material module.
BOM Numbering Sequence: You have a couple of options here. You could maintain the BOM IDs manually, maybe try to make them match the Finished Good Item. Or you could let Acumatica auto-number them. If you auto-number, you can still search by the Finished Good Item because it's a separate field on the BOM:

Default Revision: BOMs can have multiple revisions. This is just the default character that will go into the Revision field on the Bill of Material (AM208000) screen. Something meaningless like A,B,C or something meaningful like a Project number.
Duplicates on BOM: Controls whether the same Raw Material Item can be used multiple times on a Bill of Material. Allow won't give any kind of notification. Warn will give you a yellow warning, but allow you to save. Not Allow will give you a red error and not allow you to save.
Duplicates on Operation: Controls whether the same Raw Material Item can be used multiple times on an Operation within a Bill of Material. Allow won't give any kind of notification. Warn will give you a yellow warning, but allow you to save. Not Allow will give you a red error and not allow you to save.
Default Work Center: When you add a new Operation to a Bill of Material on the Bill of Material (AM208000) screen, this Work Center will default into the Work Center field on the Operation after you type in the Operation ID.
Operation Time Format: How you want the time to be displayed on an Operation. Regardless of what you choose, the number of minutes are what gets stored in the database. Here are some examples of how the options get displayed on the Bill of Material (AM208000) screen.

Total Time Format: How you want the time to be displayed on the TOTALS tab of the Production Order Maintenance (AM201500) and Production Order Details (AM209000) screens. Regardless of what you choose, the number of minutes are what gets stored in the database. Here are some examples of how the options get displayed on the Production Order Maintenance (AM201500) screen:
