Hello
I am Jim.I am from one of Acumatica Partner Company. My official position is ERP Functional Consultant, mainly focus on Financial,Distribution,Manufacturing Module. Can you provide me any advice for speeding up the learning steps base on your working experience at Acumatica, such as how Acumatica train new employee for better understanding about software, without breaking any privacy rule(if you can).I was in accounting industry before work at Partner Company, so I think I will going to further learning about financial reporting & costing related things.I finished a lot of badge from Acumatica Uni.Can you tell me how much period need to train yourself to get along with the software,to confidently explain/teaching to client? Also, how many employee on Acumatica partner team is best fit for Partner, such as Sale Consultant,Functional,Implementation,Technical, etc. I did watched your distribution video & getting a lot from that, thanks for that.
This is a 3rd party site, not Acumatica itself. Everyone here works together as volunteers to support each other with ongoing issues. It sounds like you're making good progress through Acumatica University, which means you're definitely on the right track.
As for your question about your time frame to go live: It's going to depend on your skill set, if you're doing full customizations, you'll need to know C# and a lot of what goes on in the back end; if you're just configuring the front end, a lot of this is point-and-click. As for teaching someone, the time is irrelevant, your confidence in your own skills and knowledge is going to be more important to your success. Don't hesitate to come here and ask for assistance when you find yourself stuck during an implementation.
All that being said, if you're looking to talk directly to an Acumatica Representative, this is not the right place. Tim Rodman runs the show here and he has a vast knowledge of the working systems, but I don't think we have we any developers from Acumatica. I would suggest registering here and making a post: https://adn.acumatica.com/
Regarding learning Acumatica or any ERP system, my personal approach has always been the "sink or swim" approach. Dive in, take some real world situation, and come up with a way to make it flow through the ERP system.
That's my approach because "sink or swim", "throw you in the fire" or whatever other similar analogy you want to use is the nature of consulting. There is no formal training program to it. You have to think on your feet. The only way to learn how to do consulting is to jump in and start doing it.
That's also why I like the term "Professional Learner". I don't like the term "expert". In consulting you are always learning and your ability to learn new things quickly is more important than your existing body of knowledge. "Experts" lean too much on their existing knowledge and they stop learning. That's why I personally don't think that "experts" are good consultants.
Regarding Acumatica, Acumatica University is the main learning resource. There is a lot of in-depth content there. Taking a course is good, but teaching a course is even better. If you really want to learn a module, then schedule yourself to teach one of the courses via a webinar, in-person class, etc. That's really the best way to learn it.
