I modified a the generic inquiry for sales orders to provide detail on the line item level, which has been great, and natuarally it results in much more data for the generic enquiry screen.  So when I created a pivot table to show item sales by customer, it takes a long time to load. To reduce the loading time, when creating the pivot table I preselected one customer so that when I open the pivot table, it populates the results of that one customer fairly quickly.  Then to change customers I select another from the customer drop down and choose another customer.  This solved my loading time issue, but its not ideal.  Does anyone have a better solution to reduce the loading time?

How many records are there when you run the Genetic Inquiry without the Customer filter?

@lweinstein Ya, that's kind of what I was expecting. I've noticed that Pivot Tables run kind of slow when the record count gets "high". I'm not exactly sure how to define "high", but I would put 122,000 in the "high" category.

Two ideas:

1. Instead of using Pivot Tables, add Grouping to your Generic Inquiries for the summarized view, then add Navigation for the "drilldown" effect. It will have to open a separate window / tab for the drilldown effect, but it will run faster.

2. Look at using an outside tool like Excel or Power BI.

@timrodman I did get it to run faster by pre-poulating a customer record in the search.  Changing to another customer does not seem to have the same delay as generating the data without a customer selected.   Once a CSR chooses thier customer it seems to remain in the memory of thier system till the next time so I think leaving it will be the best option in this case, as they like having the search in the same window/tab
