2 questions (actually, many questions but I'll start with these 2...)

  1. Is there an easy way to convert Acumatica reports to Generic Inquiries?  I would like to be able to pull that info into Excel/Dashboards via odata...
  2. Is there a database of GIs that can be downloaded?  I feel like I'm recreating the wheel every time I write a GI report (I can't be the first person to want an AR/AP aged or some other common info in a GI instead of an Acumatica report).

Thanks!

p.s. I'm new to Acumatica and this site is very helpful!

There are a bunch of useful GI's that are part of the "default" dashboard package that is in the Acumatica Sales Demo environment.  We tend to import that dashboard package for our customers since you get a number of GIs (and dashboards) that are a pretty useful starting point (i.e. the GI called DP AR Customer Summary groups all outstanding invoices by their aging, so you can report on total $ value over 90 days or whatever).  If you don't have the dashboards, check with your VAR to see if they can add them to your environment.

In terms of converting reports to GIs, I usually open the report in report designer on one screen and have the GI form on my other screen and work through the "build Schema" from the report so that I can copy the tables, joins, etc.  What you find is that GI's are great for a lot of things and I do use them most of the time, but for certain scenarios, reports just work better if you have complex data you are trying to pull.

Hi Megan,

Liked your explanation. Also my team usually create SQL Query also if you have any relation that cannot be accommodated with using only GI or Report designer.

Hopes this answers your questions and interest with Acumatica.

Regards,

Daru

Regarding #2, it's a common question that I hear. I've been working on it with the Sample Generic Inquiries (Query Quarry) course which you can see on the Courses page (click here), but COVID has put the project on hold for the foreseeable future.
