I have the Velixo Reports Excel Add-In installed, but now I'm wondering how to create a connection to Acumatica so Velixo Reports knows how to get data out of Acumatica.
Can anyone help?
Hi Scooter,
You just need to go to Acumatica -> Connection Manager on your Excel ribbon like this:
This opens another window. In this window you need to click the Add... button:
Then you just need to put in some information:
Name: Give your connection any name that you want. You will reference this Name when you start writing Excel formulas.
URL: This is the same URL that you access Acumatica with. Mine happens to be on my local computer, but this could be any publicly available URL. Nothing different from accessing the Acumatica application in your browser.
Company: This is the Acumatica company name that you're connecting to. Mine is creatively named "Company". You have to put a value here, regardless of whether or not your Acumatica instance has multiple companies or not. I like this because Report Designer is confusing the way you have to put @CompanyName after your username, but only if there is more than one company in your Acumatica instance (click here for more on that tangent).
Username: Your Acumatica username
Password: Your Acumatica password
Save password: I think this checkbox determines whether or not it will save your password 🙂
After you click OK, you will get a window pop-up that looks like this:
Velixo Reports relies on Generic Inquiries via OData to get its data. The first time you connect to an Acumatica instance, Velixo Reports needs to create some Generic Inquiries.
Just click Yes in the screenshot above to let Velixo Reports create the Generic Inquiries that it needs in order to connect to your Acumatica data.
You only have to do this once.
While it's creating the Generic Inquiries, you will see some messages in the lower left-hand corner of Excel:
When it's finished creating the Generic Inquiries, it will say Ready in the lower left-hand corner and you can click the Close button:
There, you are all done creating a connection to your Acumatica data.
Sweet. I really like how Velixo Reports uses the existing Acumatica OData connection rather than the old-style ODBC connection directly to the database. Very modern!
Hi @kkamcheff,
Can you include a screenshot of your Add Connection screen which looks like this:
I want to see if anything jumps out at me.
Thanks Tim, I'm having difficulty pasting a screenshot into this reply 🙁
Hi Tim
Probably a bridge too far, but ...
We are using a 'rebranded' acumatica system through MYOB Australia (called MYOB Advanced). When trying to connect to Velixo I get an error stating "That doesn't look like an Acumatica website. Please verify the URL".
The MYOB Advanced URL is https://company_name.myobadvanced.com
Any suggestions?
Cheers
Nick
It should be the same as far as I know. Can you include a screenshot of the URL in your web browser when you are logged into MYOB Advanced? Also, are you sure that your Company ID is correct?
Hey @gabriel-michaud1 do you know of anyone on MYOB Advanced "down under" using Velixo Reports?
Velixo Reports works fine with MYOB Advanced - I helped a few partners and users set it up and there are practically no differences with Acumatica.
I need to mention that I discovered a problem recently where Velixo Reports would give this error message when specifying the wrong company name on a multi-company site. It needs to exactly match the login name in the Companies page. I have improved the validation logic and error message but this hasn’t been released yet. Can you confirm if your site has more than one company?
Nick, if you want, I can check it out on your site - drop me an email at gabriel@velixo.com
