I would be very greatfull if someone can point me to solutions that can be used with Acumatica for scheduling resources on projects and tasks
If you are just using projects and tasks (not on Field Services or Construction edition) have you checked out SmartSheet as an option? There's an older video from Doug Johnson here that gives a quick overview:

thank you for responding. I have looked at Smartsheet before but for some reason have never seen this specific video!
At the time a thought that the fact that the subtasks created in smartsheet do not sync back and populate Acumatica was a disadvantage.
Now that I reviewed it again, it seems to be the right way to go.
I will evaluate it again.
