Perpetual can be defined as: “never ending or changing”

Acumatica is an ERP software solution that is built on modern technology with flexible licensing and deployment options.

A Perpetual Acumatica Learner always approaches Acumatica from a learner’s perspective and never arrives at the mindset of “an expert”.

This blog chronicles my personal Acumatica learning journey. When I first began to learn Acumatica in April 2013, I started this blog as a way to communicate about my experience. I figured that others would be taking this same journey and they might be interested in the content.

My Background

I began my career as an auditor at Deloitte and Touche where I got my CPA license. Then I moved into ERP systems because I liked the blend of business processes, accounting, and technology. I have experience implementing Sage 500 ERP and Microsoft Dynamics GP ERP.

Since March 2011, I have been working in-house for a manufacturing company. We utilize all the Sage 500 ERP modules and are constantly expanding the system through customization to better fit our business. I also do a lot with BI reporting using SSRS, Crystal Reports, BI Explorer, and Power Pivot to give management better visibility into our ERP data.

Sadly, Sage has kept R&D investment in Sage 500 at a minimum for the past decade. Each “new” version looks basically the same. Our last upgrade actually broke more features than it introduced. The only reason Sage hasn’t completely eliminated Sage 500 yet is they don’t want to lose the millions of dollars in maintenance revenue that they get from existing customers.

A New ERP Product

Because of the sad situation with Sage 500, I have been looking to learn a new ERP product for the past 10 years. First, I thought it would be OpenBravo, then I thought it would be Microsoft Dynamics GP, then I thought it would be NetSuite, but none of those products seemed like the right fit for me. Finally, I was excited to discover Acumatica. Acumatica seems to have the technology foundation, vision for the future, growth philosophy, and product features that I have been looking for (click here for some differences between Acumatica and NetSuite). The more I learn about Acumatica, the more I feel that I made the right choice.

Acumatica has a bright future ahead. If you are reading this and you are interested in learning Acumatica too, just know that you have made an excellent choice and you are not alone. It’s going to take a little while longer for it to fully mature, but, when it does, Acumatica has the potential to surpass Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, and NetSuite to become the most widely used ERP application among medium-size companies in the world.
